Annual Festival Banners – Bridge Banners

Bridge Banners – Festival Banners – Event Signage

Bridge Banners Calgary

Let’s get the party started.  But first you have to invite the whole city.  Festival Announcement Banners are the best way to get your message out there.  Thousands of people will view your invitation for weeks.  The cost of a single banner compared to the impressions received is un-matched by another form of advertising, even vehicle wraps.  Many cities, including Calgary encourage and support many community events like this to build city moral, hence charging little to nothing to place your bridge banners across the city.

There are a few tips that will make your banners produce the maximum impact, and

1. Bridge Banners Need Bright Colours

Drivers and passengers will often filter signs out.  And at highway speeds lowers the chances that they will see your signs.  Bright colours will draw the eye from far away.  Smart graphic design will accomplish this goal.

2.Bridge Banners Needs To Be Easy To Read

Use contrast colours to s eparate your text from the background.  If you have a hello background, perhaps use black letters that will stand out.  Do not use a light blue on a white background or blue on a black background.  This may seem simple, but is often done.  Perhaps what is visualized on a computer screen does not have the same effect on actual printed banners.

Avoid script thin fonts – Use bold fonts.  Many will sacrifice good readability for  a pretty design.  The point here is to communicate the important information such as the Event, Location, and Dates

3.Bridge Banners Are Budget Friendly

With the above tips, chances are your event will be a hit.  So let the hits keep on coming, every year.  But instead of buying a new banners every year, why can’t you just use the ones you have.  We make that possible by making the dates and location (if needed) changeable.  We usually digitally print all banners and for festival bridge banners we do as well except for the dates.  Those we apply separately with a second removable layer of vinyl .  this goes the same for location and sponsors if needed.  So every year all we change are the bits needed.  And with our robust banner material and edge hemming reinforcements with grommets, your initial investment will last years and years.

Jackson At 3M Training

3M-vinyl-Sign-Installer-TrainingTraining presents the prime opportunity to expand the skill and knowledge. This is very important and often overlooked in the signage industry, we have found it an essential part of giving our customers quality of product which lasts.  Jackson was excited to attend the 3M vinyl installer training this week; Which consisted of information filled classroom lectures and learning the importance of media selection  which is often overlooked to save a few dollars by using a cheaper material.   This we feel would work against the company and the customer, as not using the right material causes the install to take longer with more difficult obstacles to overcome. This affects the customer because it won’t look as good or last as long.    Vehicle preparation is often missed as well.  Sometime because of laziness, sometimes ignorance.  After 3M training, the vitalness of this step is made crystal clear.

Sign Permit Application – City of Calgary

I know that applying for a permit can be quite overwhelming –

Though you can ask us to help you with this task, you can do it yourself.
Here are some tips that will give you a hand.  Please note that this blog is to help guide you though the process, but probably won’t eliminate all bumps along the way.
Some resources can be found on our resource page.  LINK
1. Print out the “Development Permit Complete Application Requirement List” “Facia Signs”
note: Rooftop signs require a different form
2. Obtain your “Land Title Certificate”  on here should indicate your “legal” address which will look like
example:
Plan 2222JK
Block 1
Lots 1-2 Inclusive
This information along with project name, contact name and contact information should be on all plans.  It is acceptable to be neatly hand written in the corner of these documents
3. Required Items
1. Photocopy of Certificate of Title.  That was easy.  We can check one item off.  There is a certain gratification to checking these items off.
2. Letter of authorization from the registered owner of the land.  Make note that this can not be from the tenant management  unless it is accompanied by another letter giving the management company authorization from the registered owner of the land.
3. Color photographs of the site.  Have a measurement line that goes from the ground to the bottom of the sign.  Include all  dimensions of the signage that is being put up.  Most of this can be written over top of your photographs with pen or marker, but ensure that it is neat.
4. Fee Schedule: Print it out and include it.  Thats easy.  I have been told that it is more to educate the person applying for the permit if they are unsure of pricing.  Then it is easily available for the your permit advisor to go over it with you.
5. This is information that you would obtain from your sign company that would show layout of the sign, dimensions, materials used, electrical, and tools used to anchor install your signs.
6. This site plan you may have gotten when  purchased the property.  Take a photocopy, outline the building in question, where the sign is located. (accurate sizing) One thing they are mainly looking for is the distance from your new sign to the end of the property or any municipal item such as power lines, etc.     If you don’t have this site map, you can make your own.  Use google maps, but do not use a satellite image.  Then draw in all needed components as listed.  ex. the building, utility poles, pathways, etc
7.Sign Drawings you would get this from your sign shop but often as a extra fee.  This will show the sign super imposed onto the building.
8. Elevation Drawings: Note that photographs will not be accepted, but you could use a photograph to help trace the building.  Graph paper works great as keeping everything to scale is key.  Use a ruler and keep it neat.
Last form to fill out is the Facia Sign Information Form: This form is short and pretty straight forward.
Now you can submit this to the City of Calgary and review your work with an agent.  I have found them to be quite accommodating and willing to educate.  If you don’t have all thats needed, I have found they give clear guidance and direction and sometimes even save a place for you in line.

Best times to go is first thing in the morning.  You can now also book an appointment online.

Recycling Is Our Policy, At Work and At Home

Here is Roberto and his son with their collection of empty ink cartridges.  In the past these were taken to one of Calgary’s hazard waste disposal location, (where one might take empty paint cans and oils) but after some pressure, Roland has finally set up their own recycling program to make better use of the cartridges. Empty cartridges are now collected and shipped to Vancouver, at a cost of approx. $40 per shipping.  Well worth the example to our young ones.

Here Mark and Roberto are emptying the waste ink reservoir on the wide format printer. It is collected in larger jug and taken to a fire station with a waste management unit once a year.  This is one activity that Roberto was shocked and upset to hear that it is common practice for signs and graphic companies to just dump it down the drain.  “We are not that kind of company” he had responded.
